Proof that simple, traditional, vegetable-based dishes can hold their own in the Michelin guide, La Montecchia has maintained one star since 2009. The menu is 85% vegetarian, but also includes Alajmo family classics like Erminio's steak tartar. The wine list contains over 600 bottles, over half of which are available by the glass.
The La Montecchia menu offers a wide choice of vegetable based dishes, with a special emphasis on vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free preparations (identified in the menu with special symbols), as well as a vegetarian tasting menu called “Orto.” Meat and fish options can also be found on the menu, including Alajmo family’s classics like Erminio’s beef tartare and crispy goose leg with potato puree.
Erminio Alajmo manages the dining room alongside Mauro Meneghetti, Erminio’s right-hand man and the restaurant’s wine director since La Montecchia opened in 1994. Executive chef Simone Camellini prepares Max Alajmo’s seasonal menus with his own team of young talent.
La Montecchia restaurant is located on a spectacular estate at the base of the Euganean hills.
